Types and selection of wood grinders

There are various types of grinders and shredders on the market for smashing agricultural and horticultural wastes, such as branches, corn stalks, straw, bamboo.

The types of grinders can be classified in the following ways:

1. Power source (power size)
2. Smash method
3. Way of walking
4. Smash diameter
5. Smash speed

1.Power source (power size)

Generally speaking, power source can be divided into engine and electricity.

Use engine driven crusher can output more power. From 13hp to 25hp.

Use electric powered grinder limited power output, so only use for home gardening, the diameter that can be crushed is also less than 2.5cm.

2.Smash method

The shredding method of the shredder can be divided into blade shredding type and hammer-knife crushing, generally speaking, the blade type shreds the shredded material and cuts it into very small pieces, which can be used on bamboo-like fibrous plants. The hammer knife rotates at a high speed to break the crushed material, so the blade does not wear out, so it can be used for breaking pallets containing nails.

 3.Way of walking

Due to the weight of wood grinder, tracks or wheels are required at the bottom to allow the user to push or move.

There are two ways of walking, self-propelled and hand-pushed. Self-propelled type can be subdivided into crawler type and wheel type, but this article will not continue to discuss the crawler type and wheel type.

 4.Smash diameter

Generally speaking, the crushing diameter will be one of the most important keys to the whole crusher, and it is also a factor that decides the size, design and price of a crusher.

Generally, the smallest electric grinder for self-use home gardening can pulverize about 2.5cm in diameter, and then there will be general agriculturalgrinder, which can pulverize things with a diameter of about 7cm~14cm, and then larger ones for felling contractors. The crushing diameter will be above 20cm. Among them, the 7cm~14cm shredder has the largest market in Taiwan, because the pruned branches and wood are usually between 7cm~14cm, if the trunk exceeds 14cm, because the number is small, most of them will be recycled as garbage.

5.Smash speed

Common users usually don’t consider the crushing speed of the grinder, but horticultural contractors or professional users may purchase a grinder with a crushing speed in mind.

For professional users in Taiwan, crushing speed need to reaches 600kg or more per hour to be qualified, if crushing speed is too slow will affect the progress of the project, the waiting time of manpower is also transformed into an intangible cost. Although it is not important to common users but professional users must choose carefully!
