How to calculate the use time of electric products? Electrical engineer teaches you! (electric brush cutter/electric chainsaw/leaf blower)

About electric products (electric brush cutter/electric chainsaw/leaf blower…etc.), there’re various of voltage system on the market. How to calculate the size of the battery and the use time of the electric product when purchasing?

  1. Voltage system

There’re many kinds of voltage system on the market as our home appliances use 110V voltage system in Taiwan. This is the same basis on the use of electric products. If manufacturer flaunt that they use 36V brush cutter, that means the included battery supply 36V voltage, received by the motor is also 36V voltage.

Thus, we call voltage as system. Every company's power tool system choices are not the same.36V

        2.Battery capacity

After we have basic knowledge, we can talk about battery capacity now. When inquire electric products (electric brush cutter/electric chainsaw/leaf blower), we’ll inquire battery capacity. Then we usually say this battery is XX Ah

Battery capacity (C) = electric current (I) x time/hours (T)

Ah represent capacity, I represent the current consumed by the electric product per hour, T means time.

Foe example, if you want to buy a brush cutter, the owner tells you this is a 6.2Ah battery and brush cutter consume 3.1Ah/hr, that means the battery can use 2 hr ideally.

     3.Electric current calculates

Although we’ve talk about the use time of electric product clearly, but how to calculate electric current we consumed per hour?

About the calculation, we need to know motor power, voltage system.

Motor power(P)= electric current (I) x voltage (V)

This time suppose that we need to buy an electric chainsaw and inquire the power motor about electric chainsaw. If clerk told you is 180w motor, and the voltage system is marked with a 36V system, which means that the motor needs to consume 180W/36V=5A of current per hour.

Let’s calculate the current sleeve to the 2. Battery capacity then we’ll know how long the motor can be used with different size batteries. If we use 10Ah battery, it means the time that this battery used on the electric chainsaw machine is 10Ah/5A=2hr.

When electric brush cutter uses different knives (blade, nylon rope) to cut, the motor power used is different, so the current generated is also different. The converted usage time results are also different

The electric leaf blower also has two different motor powers, so when it is used in the normal mode and the turbo mode, the available time is also different.

Unlike electric brush cutter, electric chainsaws do not run continuously for a long time, so we usually use the motor power during cutting to calculate the number of cuttable pieces (the number of cuts)
